The panel will feature:
Dr. Shazia Malik, a podiatrist from the MUHC, is the recent winner of the Consumer Choice Award for Excellence in Business 2010. She has worked with the Italian Red Cross for earthquake relief in Pakistan and in May 2010 she provided her services for earthquake relief in Haiti alongside Miami University Miller School of Medicine. She plans on joining a team for flood relief efforts in Pakistan in November.
Dr. Kirsten Johnson, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, Affiliate Faculty member at the Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill, and an Affiliate at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative at Harvard University, does work in global health as both a researcher and a practitioner. She received her MD at the University of Calgary and her Masters of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. Her two main areas of interest involve conflict related gender-based violence and child protection. She has worked with Physicians for Human Rights in Sudan and Chad and is currently the Director of Research for the Child Soldiers Initiative. In 2010 Dr. Johnson received the Janusz Korczak Award for Children’s Rights. Her work has influenced NGO programming, local government policy and International Criminal Court investigations.
