- Put antibiotic ointment on the affected area several times a day, make sure the tattoo is ALWAYS covered with a thin coat of ointment. You can do this for 7 days.

- After you put a moisturizing lotion for 5 days. Before you apply the ointment on your tattoo you should wash your hands, because many infections come from dirty hands.

- It is also suggested that you wash the tattoo 5-6 times a day to remove excess ointment and body fluid after that you can put another thin coat of ointment.

- Keep your tattoo clean away from dirt and dust and if you don’t always have the time to care of it, you should put a bandage and ointment on it, but a bandage 24 hours a day because your tattoo needs to breath sometimes.

- A new skin is going to built over the tattoo, it’s going to be very thin and shinny and will tend to be dry, you can use a dry skin lotion to hydrate your tattoo.

- You should also avoid the sun during the healing period and even after the healing we suggest you to use a sunblock lotion when you spend the day out on the sun, choose the highest grade of the lotion you can find, this will protect your color from UV rays which can fade the color of your tattoos.

Aftercare for Piercings

recommended by Maxime from Tattoo Voodoo, 329 rue Principale, Granby, QC

Any piercing must be cleaned twice a day during the healing process. Too frequent cleansing may result in irritated skin around the piercing area. So, follow as directed above unless the piercing has been contact with dirt, sweat or any other body fluids.

- Use the liquid disinfectant suggested by your body piercer artist.

- First, apply the disinfectant to both ends of the piercing while twisting the jewel so that the disinfectant can get inside the piercing area for a thorough cleansing.

- Second, wipe off any left residues that could have dried out on the jewel

- Using cotton swabs and warm water, not the fingernails, before twisting it.

- If the skin around the piercing becomes red, dry or chapped, rinse the area thoroughly after cleansing or you may stop the use opt for a milder soap cleanser such as fragrance-free Spectrogel.
