What is Your Target Heart Rate ?

Target heart rate  = ( 220 - your age ) x percent intensity you want to exercise at

i.e.

age = 23 yrs. old

intensity = 65 % intensity

(220 - 23) x 0.65 = 128 bpm

How do I measure my heart rate?

Why is your target heart rate important?

Keeping track of your target heart rate allows you to monitor your progress in a fitness program as well as making you be aware if a certain level of exercise is appropriate for you or not.

Resting Heart Rate

The resting heart rate is used to determine what your target heart rate should be. Resting heart rate is lower in physically fit individuals. Resting heart rate also raises with age. Your resting heart rate will generally be between 60 - 80 beats per minute. Resting heart rate is best measured in the morning before you get out of bed, after having head a good night's sleep. Your resting heart rate can tell you if you are over trained or under trained.
