Waxing Tips

as recommended by Miriam at Spa Euforia, 3859 rue St-Denis

Pre-Waxing

Before waxing, you should make sure the hair is neither too long nor too short. If it is too short, then the wax will not remove the hair and if it is too long, the aesthetician will have to trim it (which will generally come with an added fee), it will be more painful and may not remove all the hair. It is important to respect the  3-5 week rule, depending on the body part, when going in for your next waxing session.

Post-Waxing

After the wax it is important to keep the skin hydrated. Consequently, you should not be showering too frequently and you should be using a hydrating cream. Every other day you should scrub your waxed areas with a luffa sponge or glove to prevent ingrown hair follicles.  If you do suffer from a lot of ingrowns, Spa Euforia also sells a roll-on cream called PFB Vanish that helps to reduce ingrowns and razor burn, also making it great for men.

Happy, Healthy Skin

recommended by Manon Pilon at CurAge Spa, 2375B Transcanadienne, Pointeclaire, QC

Some advice for keeping your skin happy, and healthy.

1) 95% of skin products sit on the top layer of the skin, where cell renewal takes place. This means the product more or less “lubricates” the skin for a short period of time, instead of actually hydrating it.  To get products that will hydrate the skin, you should be looking for products with:

- Essential oils

- Essential fatty acids

- Pure cold pressed extractions from plants (Borage, Wheat germ oils, Argan oils)

2) Also try cold pressed oils in the bath, as they are very absorbent are great moisturizers.

3) In the winter, when on a mountain, be sure to wear a sunscreen with both UVB and UVA protection. Even though you may think it is cold and there is no need for sunscreen, this is the time and place where UV rays can damage your skin the most. Most sunscreens only measure protection against UVB rays, so look or ask about a sunscreen for UVA coverage as well.

4) Try a hydrating facial, and make sure to exfoliate first to get rid of the build up of dead cells.

5) Add supplements to your diet, such as vitamins with essential fatty acids and antioxidants. Fish and nuts are both great foods to eat for both fatty acids and antioxidants.
