Lauren Rubenstein - Chicago Bride-to-be

1. Where are you getting married and when?

We are getting married September 5th 2010

The ceremony and the reception will be held at the Armour House at the Lake Forest Academy. I’m coming from NYC and David my finance comes from Texas. We looked at all options, but wanted not too far from the city. This place is located 30 minutes outside the city. We decided to go with this one because it was breath taking and reasonable price wise. We think that the venue is not only beautiful, but reflects each of our unique tastes. We will have an outdoor ceremony if the weather allows it, otherwise we have a backup plan by using the provided indoor hall, and the reception will be held indoor.

2. How many guests have you invited?

We have invited 150 guests and most of them are out-of-town guests.

3. What is important for you to have on your wedding day?

Nothing particular, but outdoor wedding was preferable.

4. Where did you look for information when you first got started?

My fiancé booked appointments with several wedding planners. After interviewed 6 wedding planners we decided to go with Christina Mendoza-Terpstra – You’ll say I do. Why Christina? Of all wedding planners we met with she was the one that seemed most calm and organized. I was put to ease when I spoke to her, and I felt that I was going to be taken good care of. She was always available for us and she trusted us as we felt trust in her.

5. Which vendors did you go with and why?

Christina provided us with a PowerPoint presentation on which she recommended some vendors. We met up with them but also made arrangements with some that we found on our own. My finance is very involved and came along to the interviews. Why we decided to go with the vendors we did? We were looking for trust, and that they were going to execute after expectations. Also important was to see if their backup plans were reliable.

6. Where did you look for your wedding dress and why made you pick the one you did?

I had no really idea what kind of style I wanted or where to go. I went to NYC with some girlfriends to Kleinfeld Bridal to try on some dresses just for fun. I ended up finding one that I really loved. I went back to Chicago to see if I could find a similar dress. Finally I decided to go back to NYC and get the dress that I really liked. Service is very important to me, and the service the first time was just OK, so I asked for another person the second time, which was much better.

7. If you could give an advice to someone that just starting to plan their wedding, what would it be?

I would advise them to first to get a wedding planner, to get help to get the time line. Getting this help will avoid you feeling overwhelmed. You can then check things off your list as you go along.
